Set in a picturesque environment with inviting architecture, Northwest Missouri State University was originally established in 1905. As the home of Missouri State Arboretum, the Northwest campus is also known as "e-campus," with its highly well-equipped facilities; it is the first in America to have computers equipped in every dormitory.
With a long academic tradition, Northwest Missouri State University offers a range of degree programs like undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs. There are 127 undergraduate programs and 40 graduate programs within the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Education, School of Health Science and Wellness, and the School of Business to mention a few. The university has also received accreditation by Higher Learning Commission (HLC), Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs(ACBSP), and Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). At present, there are nearly 7,000 students in Northwest Missouri State University and the proportion of students to teachers is 20:1. Each student can have access to personalized guidance and care from school’s faculty and administration team. Northwest Missouri State University upholds practice-based teaching method and provides students with experiential learning such as internships, volunteer group, on-campus radio station and television station, and campus farm, etc. In turn, students gain more professional experience, while better preparing themselves for their future careers.
Supported by the Office of the Provost and the Student Activities Council, the Distinguished Lecture Series is to enhance the academic environment through individual discipline and interdisciplinary topics. The series offers the Northwest campus and surrounding communities with opportunities to hear from extraordinary individuals from throughout the globe. Scholars, world travelers and leaders in their fields visit the Northwest campus to share their wisdom, insights and experiences.
Northwest Missouri State University also offers rich campus activities so that students can enjoy holistic education here. There are over 170 student societies such as the academic clubs, interest groups, sports clubs, etc.; meanwhile, Broadway shows, comedies, concerts and carnivals continue to be staged throughout the year.
Northwest Missouri State University also attaches great importance to the fostering of cross-cultural and international-exchange talents, by their uncompromising dedication to provide international students with professional support, safe environment and top-notch education. The university has set up a language centre to offer English courses for overseas students whose TOEFL scores do not meet the admission standards. As a consequence, Northwest Missouri State University has won many awards including the champion of National Association of College and University Business Officers and the prestigious Missouri Quality Award.
